I've been blog tagged!

My glass friend Ali tagged me so I have to share 8 things about myself.

1. I think my husband Jim is a very handsome man and after almost ten years of marriage I love watching him do anything. And I think he smells great! lol For someone who's almost 50, he's pretty damn hot!

2. Before I was a stay at home mom and glass artist, I had two main careers. First, I was a graphic designer for eons. I went back to school full time while working full time because I felt like I needed to give something back. Plus, everything I was designing was beginning to look the same! So I finished my bachelor's degree and got my masters in clinical psychology. My first job in social services was working with runaway and locked out (their parents refuse to take them home) adolescents. I quit doing direct service when a former client killed a client's mother. I knew the instant I heard she was dead who had done it. Sometimes I still google the murderer's name to make sure she's in prison and staying there for awhile. Her appeal basis is that she suffered from ADHD, I think. Lame. After that I worked for a child abuse prevention program. Loved it!! It was my favorite job ever! I was good at it...I mostly did PR and marketing to get people to attend or host parenting support groups. But the program changed when a new director arrived so I changed deparments and moved to two child care centers as the family counselor. I liked working with the kids. Plus, I could go into the infant room and hold babies whenever I had free time! My last social service position was as executive director of an agency that served the homeless population. The agency closed when funding ran out. Now I am a substitute teacher and I love it! More than you needed to know, huh?

3. I am adopted, my kids are adopted. I found my birth family a few years ago. I am the youngest of 8 kids...our parents are both dead. My mother died when I was 6 and I think my dad died in 2000. My mom has an identical twin sister. It was great meeting everyone but we aren't very close and don't talk much. In the process of reuniting with my birth family, I lost my adopted family because Mom wigged out over the whole thing. We haven't talked in years.

4. I bowl once a week in a women's league. And it's a riot! I resisted my friend Janet's attempts at getting me on her team for years. Then I gave in and decided I needed to do something. I'm not a very good bowler, but I love the comraderie and laughing every Tuesday morning.

5. I am an elected official! I am a library trustee for the Roselle Public Library District. It's a lot of meetings, but I'm getting the hang of it! I did it so I could give something back and because I love to read.

6. I read fast and I read trash. I rarely rarely read non-fiction. Mostly I read murder mysteries. I just finished J.A. Konrath's "Whiskey Sour." It was super! Now I'll read her "Bloody Mary." I love finding a new author and reading all their books from the first to the most recent. My favorite author is Janet Evanovich and the Stephanie Plum series. Man, I laugh my ass off when I read those books! I'll read in bed, laugh, then read the part to Jim. He doesn't think it's as funny as I do!

7. I've written a novel. I even went to a writer's conference and had a publisher interested in seeing something from it. But I don't feel it's done. And I can't bring myself to finish it. I think it's a great story. Loosely based on my town (we have an adult entertainment area nearby that fascinates me! lol). It's really violent though and I worry what people will "think of me!"

8. I play poker once a month with a group of women I consider my family. My friend Kelly invited me to join their group three years ago and it is one of the best things to ever happen to me. We play with her mom, her sister, and two friends of their's. My friend Kelly is the greatest and so are the other women. Kelly and I play together a lot during the week--taking craft-related road trips to find the perfect yarn or bead or studio and lunching. And we will laugh hysterically over the silliest stuff. Remember your girlfriends when you were younger and had no cares? That's what it's like. I thank God for Kelly!

Now I have to tag someone...my glass friend Gabe Wizard (is that not the coolest name?!) and Kerry Collett.
